Bristol Faith in Action was established in 2001 and became a tax-exempt 501 ©(3) as the coordinated effort of 13 area churches who has the vision that by coordinating and joining together they could be more effective in serving Bristol area residents who find themselves in financial crisis. The first clients were seen on January 9, 2002. Since that time the churches affiliated and supporting the outreach ministry has grown to over 75 churches of all denominations.
To provide financial assistance towards rent and utilities to local residents facing temporary financial crisis as well as to distribute commodity items, financial and mental health counseling, and referrals to other social service agencies thereby promoting long-term financial stability and self-sufficiency.
As the ecumenical outreach ministry of Bristol-area churches, we demonstrate living examples of Christian love to our neighbors in need leading them to a Christ-centered life.
WHO WE ARE
There are only two paid employees -- the Executive Director who is recently full time, and the Client Services Coordinator, part time. The vast majority of client-related functions are accomplished by the dedicated assistance of approximately 40 volunteers.
The board of directors is comprised of 12 people representing clergy and laypersons with specific skill sets like finance, law, planning, etc.
Bristol Faith In Action is a United Way of Bristol agency and is also financially supported by its member churches, foundations, grants, individual donors, businesses and organizations.
